Where can I pickup Rod covers to protect my rods ? Im getting tired of seeing new scratches and nicks on my rods while getting them on and off the boat . Maybe a type that will also cover the reel at the same time .

Thanks Mike Tuna

Mike - I've seen them in Bass Pro (I think) - although I don't know how big they are. There is also a rod carrier thingy, where you can walk with 3 or 4 rods at once, in a suitcase type of thing. THis would be operfect for those of us who take the bus/train to teh fishing grounds.

Mike's looking for a Rod Condom. LI wierdo.

Yea I saw the thingy they will still get scratched up with the thingy . I need the condom type that will have some type of room for the sack ( Reel ) . It don't have to be a perfect fit it could be a little loose I'm on the Pill anyway . Where can I find these or do I have to invent them ?

Mike - if we don't protect them, and they get mangled, we just make a new one. The most damage mine get are when they the spare rod(s) I bring and they lean up on a wall somewere and get bounced around all day.

I'm sure a LI sissy knows how to sew, maybe he'll make one for you. Or maybe you sew? lol. If so don't feel bad, I make Pink rods for myself, and have a matching Pink reel. Fabulous

Sew I can't even get the threat through the eye of the needle ! How do they do that ? I would end up using staples and duct tape .

As far as just making new rods when the old ones get scratched Well I'm planning on giving my dad a new hobby this year . 73 years old and did a few rods many years now I will have to get him into it again . He metioned he would love to start building as a hobby . Might bring him to your house for a few lessions Bill . I'll drop him off for a few days when he's ready just let me know I'll swing by and pick him up .

Hi Mike,

When I deliver rods to customers I slide 2" Stockingette over the rod and tie a knot in the tip end. It does protect the rod but is too small to cover a reel.

Your best bet is to sweet talk a seamstess into making some for you out of flannel material. Might cost you a dinner OUT!

Good luck!

For longer two piece rods, you can get some very servicable rod covers from Veals Mail Order tackle. They are located in the U.K but can be easily reached on the Web. Their prices are very cheap and well worth the expence of shipping ot the U.S. (I don't recall it being very much.) I don't think they will accomdate a reel on the rod.

matrix1 Thanks seems thats the only kind that I can find that will fit over the reel . A little pricy but hea its marine . Might have to go with them but they don't seem long enough for a 6'6" to 7' rods . I'll look into it .

Hea Captneilf , What the heck is a 2" Stockingette ?
Dictionary says Stockingette , An elastic knitted fabric
Capt what have you been up to ? Have you been a bad boy ? Wow maybe I should get lots of those . Are those those sexy stockings ?
Like you said some flanel material might be the way to go . I guess theres not much of a call for rod covers .

Duckwump
Couldn't find any .

Thanks I'll keep looking Mike Tuna

PS If you see me wearing stocking there just my rod covers !

Hi,

Stockingette can be purchased in a medical suppy store. I believe it is used when a cast is installed, maybe under the plaster of paris.

Either Cabella or Bass Pro shops sell nice heavy duty rod bags. I don't think most of them will cover a reel.

This is what I would do. Buy heavy flannel. Take it to a Cleaners that has a seamstress on site. Explain what you want. Having a pattern for her/him to follow would be helpful. I would install a long plastic zipper from butt to top of reel seat. Top can be sewn together and bottom can have ties sewn on.
Leave the material long/wide enough for shrinkage when it gets wet or you put them in the washing machine. Wash in cold water and hang on line to dry. Do not put in hot clothes dryer. Now don't ask how I know about this washer/dryer thing!!!!!!! Ha! Hope my rod building friend BILLY 40 doesn't read this last paragraph!! I'll be shredded by the time his post ends.

Neil - now you're 2 for 2 in Billy40 bashing. lol. f you're wondering how I knew about the bashing so quickly, I have a Billy Bash-O-Meter.

That's a good idea, I wonder how much they'll charge, shouldn't be much.

Mike, I know that Braid and Canyon
products make reel covers and pole
covers. I have the braid Pole covers and reel covers. I paid $8 for the pole
cover and $18 for the reel 50sw class.
They have gone up for sure. bt I beleave that braid is still lower in price than the rest and they make a good product. I hope this helps.
