Just starting out fishing from the beach and need some imput.Recently purchased a very nice condition mitchell 306 reel and I found a dawai 7 1/2 foot elimanator surf stick at a garage sale. spooled reel with berkley 20 lb line. my question is will this setup be adequate to catch school bass, blues and fluke from shore and pier. mostly bay and pier fishing. IM retired on a budget and hope this inexpensive setup, about $40 bucks total will meet my needs. any imput from more experienced shore anglers will be appreciated . thanks DWF

I own 2 Mitchell 306s and they are fine for what you want to use it for. The only thing is the mitchells dont hold up well to salt water fishing and build up salt in the reel in time. You have to clean it well and grease it and oil it regularly. The 20lb mono is fine if your not targeting big fish. As for the rod, its adequate. In my opinion you will need 8ft or better. For 70-90 bucks you can get a decent surf rod. Tsunami airwaves or trophy series rods are in that price range for the 8fter. I would recomend this-

TSTSS-802H
xxx.TSTSS802H $ 72.99
8'0" Heavy
15-30lbs Line Rating
3/4-4 Jig Weight

You can also go with the 9fter.

causeway b&t tsunami surf rods
