Consider Wreck fishing Like donating to the sinker bank. Bring plenty of lead. Depending on depth of water, the wind and current you may need as little as 6oz or as much as 24oz, 10-18oz is most common.
For rigs the standard high-lo is the ticket.
My wreck rig is a superbly simple fashion.
I make a series of dropper loops to the main line and slipped the loops through the sinker and the hooks ,no hardware at all! When you lost a sinker you made another loop and moved the bottom hook up and put the sinker on the bottom loop.
This works best using mono over 30lb test. My hook preference is the mustad (all around 4/0-6/0) but use whatever tickles you, as long as the eye of the hook is offset.
I have never had any problems At all, with line twist or tangles and use this method in water to around 120'
Beyond 120' I use powerpro, a swivel and about eight foot of leader repeating the method above, but adding a loop of much lighter mono as a weak link for the sinker.
Both of my rods are 7' made by Kevin Bogan of Pt Peasant, The mono set is a penn 320gti and the power pro reel is an ambassadeur BG 7000, also a levelwind
My preference over the years has shifted to the levelwind reel, being far more comfortable to use, more so as the weather and water get colder.
