Recreational Lobstering

Hello Guys,

Finished restoring a lobster trap I found on the beach in Montauk, was almost brand new, threw it in the truck, now I would like to throw it out on days/nights when I'm out camping...

I know you need a permit abnd have some questions if anyone knows:

1. Where can I get the permit? (not selling them, personal use)

2. Is there a season and when does it start/end?

3. I have Atlantic herring in the freezer, I know this is a good bait but what else works well when I deplete the herring?

Any advise is surely appreciated..

I believe there is a 10 pot Max and you need the pot and bouy tagged with some ID or Permit#. It's best to call the number and get the info. I know a little from my next door neighbor. He is pretty successful and I think he can keep 6 per trip per permit. He orders cow hide on-line which is extremely durable as bait and has outfished his fathers pots 3:1 in the same area. I have a friend/Capt in M that has many of his pots just outside the harbor. You also need to check the pot I think no longer than 3 or 5 days?

Good luck.
