Hi Guys...Lookin' for some input on
the older Rampage 28...running a 24'
Hydrasports now and looking to go a
little bigger..I think the Rampage is
a good looker and has a nice layout but
how do the run and fish..do they really
live up to the "slampage" nickname????

aples to apples

No one boat does it all. Decide how your going to use it and buy the boat to suite. Compare apples to apples.

Never owned a Rampage but have fished them. Flat bottom across the stern. drifts nice, on the light side, runs good, good fuel consumption, slow down when the seas build.

My boats a heavier deep 'V'. Runs better in a sea, uses more fuel and rolls more when drifting.

Check out the 'V' in the photo.

Don't get involved with the better boat thing. There is always a better and worse boat.

Go in with your eyes open. Have a survey done. If you like it buy it.

One of my bosses has one, what a great boat. this thing is a rock. Use the tabs and slow down a little and it rides fine. His brother has a Blackfin that rides alot nicer. When we fish together they get there quicker, but when we get there they are rockin and rollin. The Rampage is very stable and has gotten us through everything we've thrown at it.
Good Luck

we have been running a 28 Rampage (1988) for several years now and are very pleased with the performance. Yes, when there is a tight chop, we are not speed demons. Helps to tweak the trim tabs around.(notice the great integral tabs btw) The layout is great, tons of room, very stable platform on the drift/anchor. Recently repowered and very happy with performance and fuel economy. PM me if any questions

never ran a 28 Rampage, but i did a 31' Rampage coming back from Hudson canyon in stiff 4 footers, had to knock it back to 17 knts, as a 31 Bertram scooted past us quite nicely..
The Rampage has a flatter bottom, compared to the V the Bertram has, hence the reason the Bertram walked away from us. Drifting a Rampage is good, The Flatter bottom sits well on a drift. Just dont be in a rush with a 4 or 5 foot chop on your Bow and you'll be ok. Good luck!!
