I am not sure if this would be the correct place for this question but I am leaning towards the management area. At any rate
in Maine they call them tommy cod and in Massacusetts they call them chubs. My question is; are these baby/fry cod?

Although they look it, they in fact are not. They only grow to several inches. Baby cod are found in similar areas and do look the same though.

But they do grow larger than 7". I have personally caught them up to 15" in quogue Canal in Moriches years ago.

They are two entirely different species. Tommycod have a range much larger than cod and can be caught from ME to NJ.

When I was young a few times I went with my grandfather to net chubs for his bait shop, at low tide in the marshes near the north river. You just don't see them anymore. Perch and pickrel would tear them up, the good ole days.

Hey...I think I've caught those(tommy cod) in the Hudson river by the GW bridge. Is that possible? The water is pretty brackish there...

I'm sure it's possible. We've seined them pretty far upstream in the Shinne**** creeks.

Yes its possible, in fact its their ideal habitat, they prefer esturarien environments with brackish water. IN CT we used to catch them bu the river mouths where they emptied into the sound.
