Tried the Point a couple days ago but winds were too strong, so I reluctantly went to Ponquogue Bridge. Was happily surprised to find plenty of keepers - I had 5, along with about another 4 shorts. All bass, no blues. Kept the 32incher below. Came back the next night - same tide- and I couldn't catch a cold. 3 shorts. Off to Montauk after work today. Got there around high tide and sundown. Throw in a big, beautiful moon and it just doesn't get any better. I got the kayak out past the break and started to head into deeper water. I was about 200 yards outside of the break and still getting settled into the seat when I noticed that the fishfinder was showing a huge variety of fish right there in 15 feet of water. I actually thought that I'd knocked my transducer cable out and it had switched to " simulator" mode. But I dropped a line inpand was hooked into a nice 34" bass. That pattern continued through the flood both sides of the tide. It was so good I stayed for an hour if outgoing. The water was flat outside of the break. It got crowded fast, but I had nonstop action for over two hours. Eventually bluefish started to replace the bass and about a dozen boats showed up for the outgoing. Not before I snagged the 17 pounder shown below (the bloodier one). Can't wait to get back out to get some more. <like href="http://www.noreast.com/postedreports/view.cfm?id=165934" send="false" show_faces="false" width='layout="button_count"'></like> Ponquogue bass Montauk bass |
