Can anyone tell me the USCG and State of NJ requirements for displaying the vessel's official number, NJ Registration Sticker and NJ Registration Number?

Being my new boat will be a USCG documented vessel am I required to display both the NJ Registration Sticker and the Registration Numbers on the outside forward half of the boat in addition to displaying the Official Number on the inside of the hull? Or am I only required to display the Registration Sticker and the Official Number? Does this requirement differ from state to state?

Documented Vessels

I am not sure about what Jersey requires but in NY if the boat is documented only the name of the vessel and Home Port is required. I think it has to be on the transom and on either side of the vessel. You must also have a stencil of the hull #'s in order to do this.

I think they are trying to get a registration fee out of you. I would call the CG and find out for sure.

Jim,
A documented vessel has to display its name and home port on the transon and its name on the forward part of the vessel, bot port and starboard. I don't know what NJ requires of a documented vessel. In NY you also have to display the registration stickers, port and starboard anywhere, as long as they are plainly visible. No numbers are assigned or required.
