Gary - this is why you have to get away from a marina and into a private slip.

Then you can fill up your totes at a land gas station and bring it to the boat.

More work, but less money - more important now than ever.

Totes and lugging fuel

In the past I did that 20 gallons here and there until the Town Marina went bonkers- this seemed to be the only thing the Town marina cared about I'll spare you all the other things they turned a deaf ear too-. Was a good saving but picture the fact that I had to lug the fuel to G 14 or 14 slips down from the parking lot quite a chore but I did build bigger arms anyway thanks Gary.

Gas prices up now! Just wait until the combined effects of the warmer weather, which traditionally bring higher gas prices and the war when it gets started will bring. An article in somenewspaper a few days ago speculated that gas prices will approach $ 2.50 a gallon...and thats on land. I could imagine what it will be on the water.

Thank goodness I re-powerd this year to diesels.

Don't count on it

Well I was just watchinh CNN and they say gas is at a all time high in some staes CAl. has some stations at 3.00 a gal! when the war starts the opeac says it will pick up the slack but they cannot control the prices at the pump! They are just using this as an excuse to rasie the prices at the pump for more bucks in there pockets! So look for 3.00 at the dock :(

Gas Tax Refund

At one time there was a form you could get from the federal government and apply for a refund of all the highway taxes on fuel for boats. I remember as a kid filling it out for my dads boat, it was a lot of money back. They don't advertise it much for obvious reasons, but I think you can still get the tax refund.

the only time I have ever herd of a refund for fuel is if you declared income from commercial fishing or boating? Did you dad have a commercial related income on the water? if so he would be eligable from the goverment to recieve a fuel refund.

Hi,

In NH the gas refund is for anyone using a off road vehicle (boat, machinery, etc). The Refund is $0.18/gal in NH. I am getting back a nice check for 2 years worth of gas for my boat. At about 20-25 gal per trip it adds up fast.

Guys,
A few years ago you could get a refund of the FEDERAL excise tax on diesel fuel. At the time the feds rewuired that marinas only sell diesel fuel that had been subject to the excise tax for on road vehicles. You had to attach a form to your federal tax return to claim the credit for the diesel fuel excise tax paid for off raod vehicle use. This later changed so that marinas could sell the untaxed fuel. Could this be what you are remembering?
