You need to go outside for decent size porgies. Around JI, the Hempstead and Fishing Line (McCalister) reefs are very good, as well as the various inshore wrecks (Stone Barge, Steel, etc.)If you are limited to inside the inlet, Two Cousins is your best bet for keeper size :)))

Try the North Shore

I started catching them in May last year while Spring blackfishing. It was actually a run of fairly decent size fish 1.25 - 2 lbs. Had to throw them back since the season didn't open until June but a good sign for that season. The last few years have yielded phenomenal porgy fishing on the North Shore. If you can get to City Island, rent a skiff from Jacks and hit any of the western Sound points from June to Sept. You won't be disappointed.

the north shore is definetly the spot for porgys i took my father out there last season for fluke and porgy fishing he loves he keeps asking when were going again he said he hasnt seen porgies that big since he was a kid fishing in sheephead bay they were some humpbacks
