Just finally getting started with plug making. Boy its not easy. Couple of questions for you guys. How do you cup out the face of the poppers so they are smooth? Also what is the best wood to use and the best way to weight the plugs? One last thing where the heck do you find those nice grommets for the middle hook, tail end etc. I tried Home Depot, and Lowes but no luck.

Cup the face with a shaping drill bit or get a Dremel hand tool kit. The wood depends on what type of plug your making. If you want a popper use a lite wood and for a diving plug use a heavy wood. Home Depot does carry the gromets, they are in the tool section where the tarp repair and gromet tool are found. Keep it up.

Springman,

I agree with gottafly. Use a dremel to carve out the cup. Smooth out all the bumps with course sandpaper when your done with the dremel. Try the local fabric store for those grommets. They are used to make drawstring eyes etc. Hope that helps. Keep asking questions, that is the only way you will learn.

Tight lines,
