Was wondering if anyone here fishes any of the ponds located in Ridge between middle country and the Expressway in the state land? I notice that there are quite a few of them and was curious if any are productive for trout, bass, etc.? Was actually thinking about buying a house in the area and that would be a nice little bonus. Thanks for any info

Randall Pond

I really like that little pond. If you wear waders, you can access the whole place. I enjoy using ultra-lite tackle (four foot spinning rod with six pound line) it really teaches you how to work a fish properly. If you go there, try plastic worms rigged weedless, you cant go wrong.

Which lakes can you access? I've been out there before because a guy I work with at Pepsi told me about one south of Grummans and when I got there access was hard to find, once I did it was a nature trail that had signs saying nature preserve so I figured it was no fishing. I know many of those smaller lakes that are more seculded have BIG bass in there, or so I've heard. Please P.M. me or reply to this post. Any info is greatly appreciated and can return with info on lakes in Suffolk (from Islip to bayshore-ish) and I practice C&R.

Randall abd dead deer

Went there for the first time this season. I cant believe all the work they've done on the pond. There are now three extensive peers that jut out over the water. If you ask me, its overkill for such a small pond. Each one is built with trex-deck and has a fishing section at the end, very nice for all the bobber-fishing kids...but I can only imagen the pressure that small pond is going to get. They also trimmed back all the over hanging brush, which made wading alot easier. One weird thing...there were two dead deer and a dead racoon all with in twentyfive feet of one another. As I was wading around, the smell was horrible...had to move to the other side of the pond. I was suspicious that there was probably foul play (poison?). Anyway, landed about a dozen tiny bass, saw a few up on beds, but left them alone, and got out of the water to walk around and give them their space.
