I've been hearing a lot of debate about whether it's ok to use braid on 100% graphite rods. I'm upgrading some equip and could use some input. However, since the season's starting and I don't wish to create a lengthy debate, can we just do a poll on the following?

Q: Do YOU use braid on graphite?
(apps: inshore species: inshore depths)

If you wish to respond, please reply with a simple "yes", "no", "yes, but be careful", or "not enough info"

thanks...

Yes, Ab-so-toot-ly!

One compliments and enhances the other.

Got it on all my Fluke setups (All Graphite rods) plus my deep-water Tog rods - (Cape Fear/St. Croix/Lami).

Never a problem with any of them.

You just have to remember not to Gorilla the rods on a hangup.

Cannot be a yes or no answer>>>>>>>>>>>

Adict the question your asking is not a definte yes or no!. I say this because braided line on graphite can be a risky comob under certian conditions!. I would not use a 100%grapihte rod with braid for tog. Why because I set the hook and reach for the sky. Yes i know you dont need to but thats the way i fish. So that wil defintly not fly . As far as fluking yes i use it no problem.
Jigging cod? You better be careful:(.
So as you can seeeit all matters on the way you fish set the hook, hold the rod,
Weight you will be using to fish. all these factors come into play. So be wise and use the right equipment for the right conditions and fishing methods you fish. not anyone else. Everyone is diffrent in there own way when it comes to fishing so don't compare just do whats best for you as a angler:).

Togmaster...

Thanks for your helpful insight as usual. While I agree with you that the situation will dictate the use of braid/graphite, my interest here was simply to see how many anglers use the combo regardless of the often mentioned "braid/graphite no-no" argument.

I also agree with you that no matter what others say, in the end, we all must make our decisions based on our personal fishing circumstances.

btw...I too am a religious follower of the "reach for the sky" method for togs. :) Some "old" guy taught me that a while ago and I haven't strayed since.

I agree with Togmaster on this one. It
all depends on how you like to set the hook. I set the hook very hard for tog.
If I use graphite and braid together while tog fishing, I set the drag lighter (Mike Tuna). For fluking, I prefer to use a glass stick with braid because I feel like I'm pulling the bait from their mouth when I use a graphite/braid set-up. I tend to let the fish set the hook when using braid
for fluke. When using mono for fluke I have a tendency to set the hook like you see on Bassmasters!
Ultimately, you do what feels best for
you...Good Luck!
