Is it too early to start using eels at the Gut to target bass? Have had a few trips there with mixed success (6 bass on one trip, 1 on another and skunked on a third) - I haven't seen any of the other boats around me using eels and I know you need to match the hatch, hence my question about whether it's too early?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Early season I tend to have good luck dropping a bucktail on a 3-way rig.
Next month I'll switch to eels,

They are doing good with eels off Block Island, so I don't see why they wouldn't work at the Gut.
