Living in MD , there are tons of service men and women in the area. Whenever I am at the local sportsbar and see them, I go over and tell them that I lost three friends that day in September. I give them my thanks for serving and offer to buy them a drink. 99% of the time they refuse the drink and are thankfull for the support of the job they are doing.

My hat is off to all members of our Armed Forces that are serving. There is not a greater military force in the world. Remember, this is an all voluntary force.

They are there for you and me, not for themselves. Anytime you see a member of the armed forces, please thank him or her, if not for yourself, then for me.

we take too much for granted in this country

These brave soldiers are the true heroes, not celebrities or sports stars or gazillionaires.

Soldiers make the American dream possible...none of us have ever known what's it like to NOT be free, to live in a theocracy or monarchy or in a communist society.

Whenever I see a U.S. Flag waving proudly I think of our armed forces. In the theatre of war, the dangers to which they're exposed make crab fishing in the Bering Sea seem like child's play.

TunaHead, I don't see men and women in uniform often in these parts, but when I do I thank them directly. I have nothing but respect for these heroes

Guess you didn't hear the conversation between Rob and I last night on what communist China is like? I may not have experienced dictatorships for long periods of time in one go, but I have spent enough time in totalitarian societies to fully appreciate what we have in this country.

I wouldn?t have a problem containing myself if I saw that.

I wouldn?t go and try to beat the bicycle rider up, but I would be **** sure to grab the rope that he was dragging the flag with and take the flag away and try to protect it. If the guy falls and hurts himself, so be it  . Sure I might get arrested, but that?s ok.

Then again I have problems if I see the flag being flown incorrectly, or disrespected. Yesterday I pulled over when I saw American flag on the street. (The ones that people attach to their cars) I picked it up, folded it up correctly and deposited in my local VFW Hall?s flag collection bin. I would have to guess I put well over a dozen flags a year in that bin.

I also try to inform people (politely) when they are flying the flag incorrectly. Last week I noticed a ?new? pizza place (a bunch of owners have tried that spot) around here that was flying an American flag and an Italian flag. That is fine, but the both flags were touching the ground. Honestly I didn?t care about the Italian flag, but I did go inside and ask the new owner to please make sure that the American flag does not touch the ground.

I will go by at lunchtime today and check on it.

If you don?t want to fly the flag that is fine by me, but please don?t disrespect it.
