Hitting PETA where it hurts: International Eat an Animal for PETA Day
If you haven't heard by now, PETA has started yet another offensive ad campaign. This one really reaches bottom?they are using Holocaust terminology, quotes, and pictures to liken the "slaughter" of animals to the slaughter of the Jews by the Nazis.

PETA is known for this kind of outrageous publicity stunt?and that's what it is, an outrageous publicity stunt?and while I am also offended and outraged, there is absolutely nothing we can do that will make PETA change their ad campaign. I'm sure they knew exactly what they were doing, have a plan in mind, and, if they withdraw the campaign, will do it according to their deadlines and their decisions.

So let's make up our own outrageous publicity stunt. Let's designate Saturday, March 15th, as International Eat an Animal for PETA Day. Everybody set the date on your calendar, and either go out and enjoy a great steak, or cook one at home. Or cook up some chicken or fish or anything else that PETA wouldn't want you to eat. And let's let PETA know how their ad campaign has affected us.

Send a letter to PETA something on the order of this one: (You can cut and paste, but you can also write your own.)

Dear PETA,

I found your new ad campaign, "The Holocaust on your plate," offensive and outrageous. But I don't expect your organization to suddenly develop any sense of tact or human decency, so I thought I'd tell you what your campaign has wrought:

March 15th has been designated "International Eat An Animal For PETA" day. On that day, I'll be chowing down on a juicy steak, or chicken, or perhaps I'll have lobster?fresh, of course, chosen from the tank specifically for me. Maybe I'll have a plate of ribs at my local barbecue restaurant. Then there's that great seafood restaurant with the poached salmon and the delicious crabcakes. I could take my family there.

America's a free country, and you have the right to say what you want, no matter how offensive I think it is. But as a result of your insensitivity to those millions of people who died in the real Holocaust, and to the survivors and their descendants, I and my family will show PETA the same kind of insensitivity.

And have a great, meat-filled dinner, while we're at it.

Chew on that......

CHECK THIS OUT

PETAS RESPONSE......ARGGGGGGG
Thank you for offering your thoughts on our "Holocaust on Your Plate"
Campaign. I want to explain further why we decided to do this campaign
and why we think it's so important.

As a Jew, and on behalf of the Jewish people in the PETA office, some of
whom came up with the idea for the creation of this project, please let
me assure you that the intention of the display is to decrease the
amount of cruelty in the world, not to minimize the human suffering that
occurred during the Holocaust.

It might help for you to know that this project is funded by a Jewish
philanthropist who has spent the last 25 years working with prominent
Jewish organizations that highlight the atrocities that took place
during the Holocaust. This donor is one of many compassionate people who
recognize the moral and ethical imperative of making the public aware of
the parallels between what was done to Jews and others in World War II
and what is being done to animals kept in intensive confinement systems
and slaughtered for food today.

The concept of our campaign originated with Nobel Prize-winning Yiddish
author and vegetarian Isaac Bashevis Singer, who said, "In relation to
[animals], all people are Nazis; for [them], it is an eternal
Treblinka." As you may know, Singer fled Europe as the Nazis were coming
into power and lost most of his family in the Holocaust. He became a
vegetarian as a result of what he lived through and what he saw. He
spoke out in favor of vegetarianism until his death in 1991. His
argument was that it doesn't matter who the victims are-we must speak
out against all atrocities and cruelties and help to stop them.

While the exhibit is shocking and very hard to look at, please consider
visiting our Web site MassKilling.com, where you'll read what many
Holocaust survivors and their families have said about the fact that it
is not only appropriate, but necessary to learn from the Holocaust and
apply these lessons to help the weakest among us today: the animals. We
honor victims of the Holocaust by remembering what they went through,
doing our part to lessen violence on all levels, and by making sure that
we learn from this history.

As a child, I read about and studied the Holocaust, and one of the
things that has stuck with me for years has been the stunning reality
that as 11 million people were spit on, mocked, beaten, and gassed,
millions more-those who were not in fear for their lives-looked on and
let it happen because it didn't affect them directly. PETA is asking
people to stop this from happening today.

Most animals raised for food each year in the United States live on
"factory farms," where to maximize profits, producers raise the most
animals in the least amount of space possible. Overcrowded in small
cages or stalls, most never see the sun, breathe fresh air, or feel
grass beneath their feet. Frightened infants are torn from their
distraught mothers. Chickens have their beaks cut off; cows have their
horns pulled from their heads; pigs are castrated-all without
painkillers. Then these animals are crowded into filthy, slippery
transport trucks in all weather extremes and taken to slaughterhouses
where they are strung up by their legs and have their throats slit-often
in full view of each other. The entire time, these self-aware animals
live and die in fear and pain. All we are asking people to do is
consider and reject what animals are being forced to go through every
day just because people don't relate to them.

Dr. Helmut Kaplan, a scholar and philosopher, said, "Our grandchildren
will ask us one day: Where were you during the Holocaust of the animals?
What did you do against these horrifying crimes? We won't be able to
offer the same excuse for the second time, that we didn't know." The
Holocaust happened because people turned a blind eye to cruelty. Will we
now turn our backs on cruelty and injustice again? Every time a person
sits down for a meal, he or she chooses whether to support the holocaust
against animals or to help end it. We shouldn't choose which atrocities
to oppose. As human beings, we should oppose all atrocities.

The idea that just because animals are different or can't speak for
themselves, they shouldn't be considered living, breathing, sentient
beings worthy of life is the same mindset that allowed the Holocaust to
happen. Philosopher Theodor Adorno, a German Jew who fled Nazi Germany
in the 1930s, wrote, "Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a
slaughterhouse and thinks: they're only animals."

I hope this helps to clarify the rationale behind this campaign. Please
do let me know if you have further thoughts or questions. To learn more

Matt Prescott

Pass the lamb gyro..on Pita please

Absolute BS-
Comparing human beings to animals holds little weight and is nonsense.I am as much an animal lover as anyone ,but to compare the torture and killing of animals ,no matter how repugnent ,cannot be equated on the same level as that treatment to human beings. That response by peta is hogwash , and to my way of thinking trivializes the memory of the 6 million Jews and all other peoples killed by the Nazi Bastards.Peta's campaign is just double talking metaphors and crap

The scary thing is

that response was written by a youth coordinator. That's right they are teaching young people this stuff. When will it ever click that this is what's wrong with this country these hypocritical idots are out there preaching this crap and in the meantime undermining what happened to millions of jews. Also what is meant by the animals never breathing fresh air or having grass under their feet if that's what they are concerned about then leave us hunters alone. I think every deer I shot was breathing fresh air and standing on grass or leaves. They are hypocrits and the best thing about them is they are their own worst enemy they keep coming up with campaigns like this which continue to chip away at their credibility. Just keep ignoring them and they will do what millions of sportsmen are trying to. Run themselves out of business.

This PETA BS always drives me crazy. This "organization" is as radical as they come and their messages are often mixed, misleading and selfserving.

Rather than having deer culled "humanely" and quickly by 1 bullet and the meat actually consumed...PETA would rather see large numbers of deer slowly starve to death and have what is left of the depleated carcass rot..uselessly.

As for the comparison of animals in slaughter houses to the victims of the Holocaust they should be ashamed...but no surprise they find it easy to defend this absurd and irresponsible comparison.

As for there "do gooding" for animals I have read some alarming financial information regarding the use of the funds they collect..... less than $5,000 that's right $5,000 of the $17 million dollars collected in 1999 was specifically targeted to direct animal assistance (e.g., finding homes for sheltered animals scheduled for euthenasia). The lions share of this money is slated for publicity stunts, PR etc.

I'd bet the farm that if any of these hardcore PETA members had a child suffering the ravages of Cancer or AIDS they would be in favor for any testing that would benefit their child ..... And if I'm wrong than they truly are the animals!

P.S. If there are any animals reading this post I apologise for comparing PETA members to you...

Holocaust=Fishing?
Kind of Makes me Naseous such a disrespect. I am a jew and I fish. My Holocaust surviving grandmothers both prominently display pictures of me and my trophies. The whole ad campaign is a travesty and a total disrespect. The real problem in Nazi Germany began when they STARTED equating Jews to animals not when they stopped.
Furthermore any jew that knows anything about their religion knows that vegetarianism that is not done for specific health reasons is absolutely prohibited.

According to legend

Thats cause you picked the wrong date!

Everyone knows that Saint Patrick (Some Irish bloak) Cooked up all the rats in Irland or was it snakes and fed them to visiting Orential sailors; as was the epicural custom of the day to accomidate visitors with their native foods.

Well.. having nothing left but trait Lobsters & Crabs fresh from the coast ofthe Emerald coast. The poor Paddywackers had only to subside on meger fare' of Potatos that as you remember were brought to the Philistines by Maggellon or was it Corteiz when they invaded south America while searching for Inka for their Clerics. (Cleris being a bastidization of the proper king James Engilish for Celtic) whom as we all lknow were the firt to teach the Babbleowenins how to cypher by showing then to place two finger on a whiskey dram. The Babbles developed the Abicus while seeking to invent a written language. They started off well with "A &B" bus errored on to "I" and proceeded to Cuss. Hence the nominclature of ABICuss which was shortened to Phoniticly Abicus by .... You guessed it. The Phoniciaens!

Well During those days of yore travel was accomplished mainely by Elephant or by Yak on land while the Modus of choice on Aqua was the DHOW. As many of you know, when the DHOW is down it is considered to be Bearish which was just about what travel onboard one of these early yacht was equal to. Trips tended to be short and meningful, so the Phonieasions (as they were called by the time the reached mordern day Somiala) beached their DHOW which was prompley jacked up on blocks and stripped; much as it would be in morden day Harlem.

The poor traveleres had to take wild horses all the way up the Nile Vally with their Calcules an Bunions growing all the way. By the time they reached the Med they had been inscriped by Pharow to build monuments. They chose to call themselves Maccabees, which means hammer

Being in a trad of a hurry and wanting to arrive at their ddestination in at least fourth generation the Calcules( As they were then called by the Egypsums were very Syrian people who were accountants) decided that for every building thet they would buil like dreidel. A dreidel is a four-sided spinning top with a Hebrew letter on each side. the letters mean "A Miracle Happened Here".

Calculate one less large stone on each succeding floor thereby speeding up the job;much as morden day contractors now do. Well: We all know the results of shofddy workmanship and the Pyrimids substantiate the fact.

After finishing up their job early before the stained and got a Hanukkah this one guy Maccabee; whome must have been Irish also As we all know that Mics aka Mac's not to be comfused with the Maine MICMAC tribe is a fine Irish name; wlee this Maccabee guy and his clan decided to drop into the pub for some draft bitters and parted by the sea route after spending all their wages. The Maccabees and the Syrians fought for about three yearsabout paychecks and then they arrived on a solution. THe Macs could take wages erned ,their tools and leftover job materials and hit the bricks, which by the way were also made by the Mics which were nicknamed BrickMics.

So having all this leftover lumber and such they only thing to do was to build a boat with it.

Now having just a few generations ago spent all that time on that slow DHOW the Mics wanted somthing fast and jassy. the McMaccabees (Mc means son of: Hence McMaccabees) (yes I know that some of you Scholers will say that Mc is actually Scottish; However it is undisputed FACT that the McMaccabees were great and generious people with philthantropical traits and they therefore empirically could not have derived from the Scotts and must hence be Irish.

Powered by sail or oars, they were ideally suited for the Nile because their shallow draught meant that they could travel up estuaries and rivers.

Being lousy navigators, but good carpenters, the McMaccabees sailed with the tradewinds until they came upon the most beutiful green island in the world an sealed their fate, Cead mile failte.

Having only local lobsters and fish to eate the Mc's declaired them to be Khosur and added Khosur salt to everything. One day a sacred cow that was brought all along the entire trip from Bomb Bay, fell into the brine and was picked and thats the story of how CornED BEEF and Cabbge came to be why you picked the wrong day.

You SHOULD HAVE PICKED MARTCH 17th!

According to legend, and person who kisses the stone is henceforth endowed with the gift of eloquence and persuasive flattery.
