I have a frehwater license. Where do I get an Empire pass is it good for Robert Moses and Jones Beach- does it cover all fees? Whats the story with the Green Key? What is it good for and where do I purchase one? i live in Smithtown.

Neo, your talking State and county. County wise that Green Key is only the start of the permit process. Don't quote me but it's near $20 for 3 years. It only allows you to make reservations to play golf or camping. ORV or beach truck permits require you to purchase this plus a $75 permit if you live in Suffolk, $200 if you don't. State last year was $39, and a buy it is for 4 wheelers. Access to many beaches across LI. I'm not sure if it covers parking in some areas as rules change. JYM look above for prices on the county stuff plus an added area in this area is FINS $40 per year with major restrictions on access, spring till June 15th and then closed to Sept 15th then open again to Dec 15. Also restrictions on times of entry on Sat Sun and holidays till Nov 1. Any questions PM me and I'll try to explain. Prospector

4X4 Permit (State)

Last year they didnt have them until February, they put em in the mail if you wanted to pay first, The Empire passport is great, definately beats paying every time you need to use a bathroom or just want to look around.

Fees and permits:

NYS Empire Passport--$39 last year. Allows unlimited parking/entry at any State beach/park that charges a user or parking fee.

NYS Beach Vehicle Permit--$39 last year. Allows 4x4 use at the following State Parks, in designated areas, from April 1 to Dec. 31: Gilgo, Sore Thumb Area 1, Robert Moses/Democrat Point, Napeague, Hither Hills and Montauk State Park. Also valid for night parking at Jones Beach Fields 6, 10 and West End 2, Captree (both main and Overlook lots), Robert Moses Field 2 season long and RM 5 after Sept 15, Sunken Meadow, Hither Hills, Orient Point State Park and Montauk State Park main lot, also from April 1 to Dec 31.

NYS Night Fishing Permit---$15 last season. Allows night parking for fishing purposes ONLY at the above parks.

Last year there were separate State permits for Caumset State Park and Camp Hero.

Suffolk County Outer Beach Permit---$75 + Green Key for residents, $200 for non-residents (no Green Key required), valid year round. Non-residents can also buy a "seasonal" permit valid from Sept 15 to Dec 31 for $75. Good at Smith Point County Park, Cupsogue County Park, certain sections of Southhampton town beaches west of Shinne****, Shinne**** (East) County park, and Montauk County park (Shagwong).

Suffolk County Night Fishing permit---free with purchase of Outer Beach eprmit, otherwise $10 for residents, $20 for non-residents. Valid for Night Parking at Smith Point, Cupsogue, Shinne**** West, Shinne**** East, Shinne**** Canal, and Orient Point. Also, must be displayed in vehicle on outer beaches after 10 PM and is valid for fishing purposes only.

Camp Hero

What about the camp hero permit?
Do you guys think there will be many changes this year?
Do you think with the limited parking spots that it might be better to pay 5 bucks everytime you want to deal with the crowds over there?
