Hey Guys,

I really want to find an excellent rod for bluefishing..I jig with a spinning reel (peen 704), and cannot find the perfect rod to match. Do you guys have any suggestions?
Also, for night fishing I use Shakespeare boat, lamiglas big water, and a graphite rod..All do the job, but something just seems to me missing. I want to get a really good quality rod this year. Not necessarily custom, but off the shelf..I'm looking at Star rods, calstar, Loomis, St. Croix..I dont know. I'm willing to spend the money for somethings that's really worth it..The Lamiglas is too **** stiff, the Ugly stik to **** soft..I need something powerful, light, with a nice tip, and something that won't feel like a bat in my hands. I usually match it up to Newells 332, 229, and maybe will get a Calcutta 700, or daiwa.
What do you guys think about the Trinidad 30?? Alot of people really rave about it. It only weighs 20 oz, but can handle tuna upto 100LB. Let me know. The season is around the corner.

Good Morning,

I know it's early but I'm confused.

You start off saying you jig with a spin reel and are looking for a rod to match it. Then you mention conventional reels.

Which way are we going here? How long a rod are you looking for? What is your price range? How heavy are the jigs you use? Do you swing big blues or gaff the?

Folks, each of us like a different feel to our rods, especially the tip action. The more info you give us the easier it is for us to answer without a cionfusion factor.

MachoNdrew- If you really want a perfect rod, you might want to consider getting a rod built just for you. Production rods of the same model number are all the same so while it may be perfect for me, it might not be for you. If money is not the primary prerequisite, then contact an experienced custom rod builder who can sit down with you and design your perfect rod.
You might want to contact Capt. Neil @ 631-587-8049. He does great work.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replys..To answer capt. neil..I swing the blues over.. Cant wait for the mates. I like the rods not too long around 6'6"-7'. I use regular size diamond jig, medium-heavier ones.
I dont want anything too crazy expensive, something around $150. I like a soft tip, but a great backbone..I dont want it to bend much beyond the tip, like ugly sticks do.
