I have a set of Penn 50SW's and 30SW's. The shift springs seem to have gone softer on them, to the point where they sometimes donj't fully engage the right gear when shifting and it helps to push or pull the handle into position manually first.
I'm assuming that I need to replace the shift springs but thought I'd post it here first just in case that's a symptom of a differnet problem.
Can one get shifter springs that are somewhat stiffer than stock?

shift springs

This problem can also be caused by binding. The springs are cheap enough so change them. Inspect the shaft for wear and burrs where it slides. Clean and relube the whole mechanism with a LIGHT coat of grease.
