Nite Watch

I have the 500's as well and have them on a beefier stick for cod and blues and other deeper water bigger denizens, the 140l is my primary on a medium type stick. Your pictured reels I am familiar with as well as they were my original surf reels-I later lopped off the bail and put on a manual pick up for my night fishing antics. Very good surf reels except when sand got below the spool that was a problem, Gary.

a reel reel

Guys you cannot beat a Newell
the newer ones are not made as well as the old p amd M seris but for weight and power there is not a reel out there that can touch it.
The Newell is the penn design made better!

Hey Togmaser:

I spoke with Bob at Bob's Bait & Tackle about buying a Newell. He said that he would not advise me to buy one b/c parts are moocho expensive and hard to get. He said the reels fall apart. Bob would have sold me one no problem if he trusted the reel. He knows that I only buy quality stuff. I have bought TLDs, Garcias and Penn Intl's from him. He never, never stears me wrong. I like the Newell b/c it is light and has a small frame. It's easier to hold all day than a Penn with the same size spool. But, as I understand it, and not just from what Bob says, Newells are not durable. Penn is. Period.

take care of things

If You take care of your reels then a Newell is no problem at all I own 25 of them and never had one break or fall apart. The new newells are not made as well as the older ones I agree, But the newellstill blows away any penn on the market today. I own 50 penns myself
the old senators jigmasters old red plate squiders, believe me you want a good reel try the newell.
Don't get me wrong I think the Shimano trinadad is awsome but $400.00 bucks is crazy.my advice is try one for yourself and not by someones opinion. you have to like it not the baitshop owner.

Penn Reels

PENN there is no substitute!
I've used Penn Reels for 23 years and had nothing but good luck with them.
As long as you clean them and oil them you can't go wrong.
All the fish I ate and threw back can vouch for this.
