I am looking to get one of my boys a levelwind reel for XMAS. I was looking at the Penn GTI 320 it holds 320 of 20lb test. I was wondering if I could get a way with 30lb test on it for jigging Blues and Bass. The 330model is a better size but the Gear ratio of 3.6 is a little slow for jigging there aren't a heck of a lot of levelwinds out there with Star Drags.

Any help would be appreciated m

They're fine

The 320 is what we have on our bass rods for bait fishing and heavy jigging. They will be fine for what you are looking to do. The 330 is a little heavy, especially for a kid.

The 320 will fit the bill perfectly for jigging and chunking, etc. As far as the line goes you can definitly use 30lb test on it. If you think about it there is no reason that you would need 320 yds of any weight line for jigging or almost any type of fishing done in the area. So I say go for it I know that I always loved the reels that I got for presents.

320 is fine, but will be a bit slow if they have to quickly retrieve when jigging Blues. Not many other options though, especially at that price. Abu 7000 is the only other levelwind I can think of right now remotely close to that price range. The 320 is a bit heavier than the 7000 as well.

You can probably go with the 310. Same as the 320 just a little smaller and lighter. Same gear ratio. As far as how much line and what type it will hold, those are manufacturer reccomendations. For instance if it holds 320yds of 20lb line it might hold 300yds of 30lb line.
