I'm looking to replace 2 old reels. Anyone have an opion on how these reels will do for sharking.

For Sale - Two 30 series, Penn GLD 2 speed reels. These are 2007 reels and have been used four times.

I have recently had them spooled with 40 # Mamoi Blue diamond line. They have been used once since being re-spooled in May 2008.

These reels are in new condition and have had very light use.

GLD 50 II

I have two Penn GLD 50 2 speeds that I would also concider selling. Just spooled with 50 lb. momoi and 60 lb. quattro.

They are a little light, but for almost all the sharks you will encounter here they can handle them. i have one and we caught a 110 mako on it and some blue sharks, but I would go with minimum 50 lb test.

They're good reels, but I wouldn't buy them specifically for sharking. Buy a pair of 50's, like a pair of old straight 50 internationals, or 50 tlds, both bulletproof reels. Loaded with hollow spectra those reels can handle any shark you might encounter in the NE and more.
P.S. If you do decide to buy 30s, definitely get at least 60# spectra on them.

#1...dont put spectra on any of the graphite reels.
#2...If that is all your budget allows, look at the Shimano TLD 30's instead. Better reel IMHO.

Best would be to try and find used TLD 50's....GREAT reels!

For whatever it's worth, My friend has the penn graphite 30's and has to keep repairing them. AND...they've only seen light use.
