I got a new reel for Christmas, a Penn 320 GT2 Super levelwind. I have been using the GTI 320 for the last 3 or 4 years and love it. When I took it out of the box to look at it, I noticed that it reels in both directions. I cannot figure out how to engage the anti-reverse mechanism. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks!

I am not familiar with the reel, but having a reel that cranks in both directions can be handy when putting out wire. Just a thought, but maybe that it what the reel will be best suited for.

320 GT2

Looks like I'll be exchanging this one. It was a well intentioned bro-in-law who bought it for me.

Don't think I will put this to good use like I would the GTI.

Thanks for the input guys...

Birdiehunter,
Go to pennreels.com and you can bring up a schematic of the reel. I haven't taken these reels apart but I have had problems with other Penn reels with the antireverse. The problem usually was the antireverse dog spring was either missing, installed wrong or there was too much grease which would stop the dog from returning to the correst position to the correct position.

the GT2 and GTI are the same reel

For whatever reason, Penn has started calling their old GTI 320 a GT2 320. They are identical reels other than the little odds and ends they change from year to year. I've also got a GTI 330 hanging around and it's identical (other than size) to the GT2 320 etc.. etc.

My .02, that 320 I had would've been a nice reel w/ 20 lb line for stripers - the drag was nice, retrieve was very speedy and it was light enough to drift fish with one hand.

I thought it could double as a trolling/jigging reel w/ 40 lb test and I think I was wrong. The problem that occured w/ mine is that the level-wind mechanism got all screwed up and actually stripped out metal parts when it jammed. I took it back to WalMart and bought a live-liner to replace it. The jigging/trolling duties were then put on an old non level-wind penn (it might be a squidder) and I soon realized that level-wind reels suck. I'd consider trading that 320 in for a GS casting, same idea minus the level wind garbage and it will cast much nicer and make for easy splicing.
