Went out on the Peconic River for a few hours this morning. My friend was just shy of the cycle: bass, pickerel, crappie, but missed the perch. He ended up with four of five 1.5 lbs bass. I caught two, one was 2.5 lbs. Very windy today. All fish released unharmed.

The Peconic at Forge River is a tough body of water to fish from the shore. They put in cement steps to help the canoes cross over the road and there are one or two bare spots between the trees, but other than that, its almost impossible to get close to the water. Its definitely a boat lake (or kayak!). Im trying to think about the other parts of the river and they're all pretty difficult to fish from shore. If you go to the Hess gas station in Riverhead (North side of LIE) exit 70? You might be able to wade back there, but be careful.

Thank you. Is there a spot where you can rent a 2-man kayak or rowboat that you can fish from. I have tried so many freshwater places that are supposed to be good but I have had very little luck. Thanks again.

Also, any tips on fishing the river.
