Drifted under the 105 bridge last night, 6:00 to around 7:30. Picked up 12 bass, 14" to 25" on shad bodies. One argument settled was that the schoolie bass are leader shy. Two of us tied the shads directly to the main line, one of us (not me) used a 30lb. 36" mono leader with snap swivel. High hook was................ my pal with the leader, he also caught the smallest, 14" and the largest, 25". Go figure ! Surface water temp 59 deg. First hour of the outgoing. Have a question, when I picked up one of the fish to release I picked it up while it's dorsal was against the transom so the palm of my hand was on its stomach, thumb and forefinger in the gill area. I received a nasty razor slice to my thumb. It was not a spine, felt like a very sharp bone. Is there an area near the gills where one needs to be cautious ? I've fished for many years although not often for stripers. If this little fella almost took my thumb off, hate to think what one of the big guys could do. LOL Cheers, Bob <like href="http://www.noreast.com/postedreports/view.cfm?id=52858" send="false" show_faces="false" width='layout="button_count"'></like> |
