Assemblywoman Ginny Feilds has been very instrumental in fighting for the rights of the fishermen on Long Island. Assemblywoman Feilds was a key player in keeping the fluke season from being slammed shut last year, and always keeps a handle on what's happening.

LIBBA is holding a fund raiser for Ginny Feilds. This is a perfect opportunity for all of us to show her we appreciate what she does for us. This is not just a LIBBA function, but a fishermans show of appreciation. Both the Captree Boatmen's Association and the United Boatmen of New York will be sponsoring the event, and I strongly recommend that anyone who has a few bucks in their fishing piggy bank buy a ticket for this event, and hold off on that new reel or pair of boots. Hey, I would even prefer if you missed your first trip on my boat to buy a ticket to this event! Remember, you don't have to find the time to go, just buy the ticket! Put your money where your keyboard is!

On May 1st the LIBBA is hosting a fund raiser for Assemblywoman Fields. It was agreed that the CBA would act as a sponsor of this event for the sum of $250.00.

$100. Is that a lot? I don't know, I guess so. How much is one reel? Does it matter if there is no one defending the fisheries in the legislature? I know your point, LIRI, not getting on you personally, but it is a valid point, and I am trying to address it.

If you live in her district, it is worth it, because she is a genuine person. She cares about her constituents, not about her image. She's into Casting For Recovery and many other fishing related, real-person related issues on LI. Her district also encompasses Captree State Park, if you fish there. If you're not from her district, maybe it's not worth it. But maybe you should be contacting the representatives from your district, and see where they stand on these issues. By telephone or appointment. Speak w/ them in depth, and let them know how interested you are in fishing, AND conservation. Let them know you are informed, so that they will call YOU when they are faced w/ a question about management. Or you can just sit at the keyboard and complain that the lawmakers do nothing for you, after you do nothing for yourself.

Even if a couple of guys get together and buy a ticket, and no one goes, the pot gets bigger, and fishermen look like they appreciate what she does. Whenever there is an issue about fishery management, boating, or access, she is more than willing to listen to me or my wife, and is interested in doing the right thing, which is not always necessarily the party thing or the politically correct thing.

I'll give her a call in the next day or so, Neil. Sorry I missed your call today, I was under a boat. Thank you for the recipe- You didn't need to return the fillet tub, but thanks for that anyways. But I think you left your milk money in the envelope! Thank you.
