Opening day is coming soon so i was wondering if any party boats from Sheepshadbay will target flounder. If yes, which boat would you recomend?
I know DorothyB will fish for flounder starting in April, but they only have half day fishing from 7 am till 11 am. One more questions, do pary boats chum for flounder?

The flounder fishing has been a disgrace the last few years. They should close the season this year and next to let the stocks re-bound. The only party boat I have ever been on that chummed for flounder was the Flamingo..but thats just Capt Bob - he will do anything to put fish in the boat. Save your money and wait for the fluke or blues to arrive or take a trip up to New England for Cod if you want to fish in late March/April.

I'm really not expecting much on opening day either, but i'll still blow some money on a half day trip just to say i finally got out on the water and got a line wet. Then i'll go drown my no fish sorrows in a few pints of St Patty's Day Guiness.

Unless of course winter isn't quite ready to go away yet and we have a blizzard that weekend :(

I fish out of Captree and they chum if you want to call it that. Maybe 3 to 6 times a day they crack some large clam shells or throw over some mussel shells. Nothing consistent like lowering a chum pot and keeping it filled. If you want your best chance at catching flounder I would reccomend
renting a skiff and bring your own chum pot and a second anchor to double anchor. Ohh, and your own life vest. (If it will help in those water temperatures I don't know). I haven't done that for years as I'm willing to trade a few potential fillets for a retreat into the nice and warm cabin of a party boat.

flounder

I guess to wet the line and get out of the house but i think that's all that'sgonna happen. I remember flounder fishing in Merrick bay (70's) you could not NOT catch fish! constant action! Dad would yell if I didn't bring up two!
That was flounder fishing!

Last Year

Last year I only made it out for flounder once (in sheepshead bay), and that was enough. I caught 2 fish and they were small. I actually did better fishing from shore on the East River! I'm wetting a line on opening day, but not on a party boat - too much $$$ not enough ><(((% (that's supposed to be a flounder ;)
