I have a Calstar 700XL rod which has a nice light tip, but a much faster taper than the GX-7, that I currently use for seabass off the Jersey coast. It pairs nicely with a Newell 220, spooled with 20# test, and the combination is EXTREMELY light. It is excellent with 3 - 6 ounces of lead, with 8 being the limit, after that I have to step up to a heavier setup. You can have the 700XL custom built or you can buy it factory wrapped, which will run about $175 - $200.
