I would guess that fares will go up a couple of dollars to offset the fuel prices.

BF, Very few party boat captains consider how much fuel they are burning when they move from one spot to another. The question of time is always there, but not fuel--They do what it takes to catch fish.

Hi,

I have never had a boat owner tell me to not use his fuel. The reason to go is to put you on the fish. It is a matter of pride in doing a proper job. Besides fishermen are very knowledgeable and they know when something ain't cricket! I like to experiment and try different locations and techniques but I avoid that when operation a party boat. The knowledgeable customers don't want me using up their valuable fishing time. They want the sure thing.

If a boat owner hasn't raised his prices in several years he certainly is entitled to do so now with escalating fuel prices. He can do it as a temporary surcharge.

My apologies for posting misinformation, GAMAKATSU and CAPTNEILF.

It just seemed like the logical assumption - and considering the other things that happen on the Sheepshead Bay boats here, I wouldn't totally discount it - but that's not fact, just my opinion :)

Botumfedur Ahhh, got it spelled correct this time

Hi,

No apologies necessary. I am sure that most of us that operate boats have been accused of that and more by fares. And there is usually a measure of truth in most everything. There is nothing new under the sun just more of some things.

I know a boat that catches flounder 100' away from the dock. Some fares say they should not have to pay as much since there is no running time. They don't say anything about more fishing time.

All the times I have brought the boat back late to give them more fishing time if the bite was late, never have the fares said let's give the owner some extra $$$ for going further than normal or for the extra fishing time. And I would not expect them to. I just don't know enough to come home on time. I have even had fares complain because I stayed out later than nornal. You just can't win. LOL, capt!

I;ve never been aware of any boats running shorter distances to save gas. I've been on many a trip where the fishing was not so hot and the captain took long, long runs to see if any fish could possibly be found.

Also, party boat prices have not increased in several years and in my opinion have increased more slowly over the last 25 years than have other forms of entertainment.
