Do any of you bring a livewell with you on party boats? I've seen several guys that do it (eg-JoJo & Mr Lee, if anyone knows who I'm talking about). They mostly use large coolers with recirculating pumps of some kind, but I'm thinking more about a small one, probably just in a 5 gal bucket. There're a couple companies that make portable units like the bubbles one and keepalive, but I haven't heard much about how well they work. Anyone have experience with this? I'm thinking more about using this to bring live baits out with me than for keeping my catch alive.

How many baits? 10 peanut bunker on a 1/2 day, the little pump (or 2 or 3) is fine, 100 peanut bunker on a full day and it is time to get the deep cycle battery and livewell pump. Keep in mind that you needs a couple baits for every drift, because the hooked bait doesn't do too well when the boat is moving.

If you can get the mate to run the washdown into a barrel, you are set.

thanks

Good point about the washdown... I've been rolling this idea around in my head thinking more about bringing live snappers out for weakfish and fluke than anything else, and they're a lot hardier than peanuts. I might be able to get away w/ the small pumps-also seems like it would be useful on the tuna boats, but I haven't made it out on one of those yet.
