Both are good, but...
I bought 23 foot Steigercraft Chesapeake back in 1998 with the 210 mercruiser I/O. I just sold it this past spring (got a bigger boat). In short, I never had a problem with the Steiger -- it was very reliable. For me, the hull was the deciding factor between the two boats --I'll take a solid fibreglass hull any day (less worry and concern in my mind at least). As for performance, the boat was fine, but don't be fooled that when the winds start to pick up that you'll have a nice, comfy ride back home. Both boats are shallow-drafted and will take a pounding when the winds pick up -- I could not take it anymore and got a 30 footer. The Steiger is perfect for the bays and when the ocean is decent. If the forecast calls for 15-20 knot winds, don't plan on taking it offshore (unless you take plenty of aspirin)...
If you plan to buy your boat new -- be careful. I was not pleased with the customer service that Steiger provided. Constant delays and excuses on when the boat was supposed to be ready was a big headache. A little more honesty and better customer service like even returning a phone call won't hurt them....
My two cents...
