See what we have been missing out on the last 5+ years***

Awesome exhibit going on this month showing pictures from Wayne Davis, who is a longtime tuna/swordfish pilot from RI. Pictures of tuna, swordfish, and other stuff from the air. Exhibit runs from now through April 30th.

Here are some of the pictures:AERIAL SHOTS!

You cannot tell from those samples, but many of the pictures are really large and all are top quality. The best collection of aerial tuna, whale, and other fish images that I have ever seen. They will be for sale and are worth going to see even if you do not want to buy any. DEFINITELY worth the trip!

Exhibit is at the Backyard Gallery, which is located at: 141A Boon Street, Narragansett, RI.

(Again, show runs from now until April 30th)

Gallery Hours:
Wed. & Thurs. 2 to 6PM
Friday 10AM to 6PM
Saturday & Sunday 10AM to 6PM

Gallery Phone #s: 401-783-0425 or 782-1715
Gallery site: Backyard Gallery

*** Most of Wayne's pictures from the last 5 years are taken in Canadian waters. Gives you hope at what we may get back if we fix our problems on this side of the line!

Wow! Nice shots, never saw that before. Thanks:)

No prob! That is just a sampling too...there are tons of other ones. Many of them are blown up to 12X18 inches or more, and are in really nice homemade frames. I was down in Pt.Judith last month and stopped by Wayne's place to see them all, picked up a couple pictures of big tuna running on top... I still look at the pictures every day and am amazed.

While the tuna pictures are my favorite, naturally, you should see some of the swordfishing pictures. Wayne spots for some of the Canadian harpooners who have been nailing them the last few years and so the pictures he has are top notch...some of just swords, some of sword boats going up on fish to harpoon them.

Thanks for Waking me up Chris !!! I forgot to mention about the Saco Bay seminar. At the end of it after UNH did the tagging portion, they showed some video that would wake up a dead guy!! They were out on Georges just this side of the line. Hand feeding Giants just like they do in the "**** Hole". many of those fish were exceeding 100". They were there for a few days and got a lot of footage. I am going to contact Molly or Nuno to see if i can obtain some of those vids.

No prob, Mike! I was actually thinking you would be one of the people interested most due to your location. Glad you are going to check it out! Spread the word!

Thanks

He has a TON of pictures from the last five years. Not all of them are printed and framed, but I saw his stockpile on his computer and I almost choked. He has pictures from either 2005 or 2006, out near the Hague Line, and there are schools and schools of hundreds (if not thousands) of big 90+ inch fish. The absolute motherload! They stayed in US waters for a week and then moved across.

That was the year the seiners got a few good sets way out there. They then watched over the following days as the herds of fish went into Canada and stayed there. I am not joking, some of the pictures are of absolute HERDS of fish. Hundreds and hundreds of them.

Also, if you look at those samples on the site I linked, most of those pictures are also from within the last 5 years. I know some of them are down near Grand Manan, others are out just over the line. We are not talking PEI or Newfoundland- we are talking JUST over the line.

We have been saying it over and over, these fish are coming close but then quickly leaving for Canada. Thats why I still have a lot of hope that if we fix the herring/forage issue that we could get some good fishing back. Wayne's pictures are proof of what we have been saying.

He also has some real good pictures from back when we had our fish here...they are not all from Canada...but he has plenty of them that are and have been taken in the last 5 years or less. Keep the faith!

TwoBlue, that's really nice stuff, I posted on another thread asking how sticking was done. That's really interesting stuff. I showed the pics to a guy in work who doesn't fish, he was amazed that there was still a fishery like that with a hand harpoon.
Thanks for the post, great pictures

No problem, rasta...glad you and others like them! And if you ever want to know more about harpooning tuna, shoot me a PM and let me know. Could try and catch up on the phone or something (WAY easier than typing it all out!) And definitly let me know if you ever venture to Maine, we can try and get you out for a ride!
