Hi. I just came across something that is called out-rovers. Looks like birds for trolling. However it is supposedly able to replace outriggers? Can anyone provide more information and oppinion. Would really like to troll for tuna but don't have outriggers. Will this work? Thanks for your time and effort.

John513, I have never heard of them, but based on what you said, I have a hunch. Q. Are they different from one another, like a Port side one and a Starboard side one, mirroring each other but perhaps angled the opposite ways? Sounds like they might be designed to pull to one side or the other as they run through the water. Just a guess.

Mako Matt - you are correct - found this on the WEB. Have not tried themn myself though.

With the Out-Rover's patented design, you can troll up to six lines without expensive outriggers.
The Out-Rover not only keeps your lines from tangling, it is the most effective salt water teaser in the industry.
Simply attach the Out- Rover to your fishing line, then attach any rigged bait or your favorite salt water lure on the Out-Rover's
snap swivel and you are ready to start trolling. It features a erratic swimming action in the water which attracts larger fish and
creates more aggressive strikes which in turn means a better hook-up ratio.

The patented PORT and STARBOARD DESIGNS will immediately swim your bait or salt water lures to their designated
sides which allows several Out-Rovers to run simultaneously. The Out-Rover is IGFA certified for world record catches.

The Out-Rover measures 12 inches long by 7 inches wide and is made of space age polymer plastic.
The Out-Rover comes completely rigged with a lifetime guarantee. Available colors are green, yellow, pink, purple, black, and blue.

Sounds like a gimmick thing to me, but heck, if you already have them, try it, you may like it!!!! Let us know how you make out. I can see problems already trying to bring them in, and let them out with other lines in the water.

They would have to be pretty cheap. The inexpensive outrigger kits can be bought for as little as $200 or less w/ holders & rigging kits. I'm sure there's a way to use the rovers, but they aren't going to work as well. It's pretty easy to add a second clip to outriggers and add extra lines, as well as flat lines on the boat etc.. Some of the more economical kits just plug into existing pole holders.

i've used them

they work pretty good
i use them to troll tube and worms or other slick "low drag" lures in very close to the rock jettys or other hazardous places that you dont want to get the boat to close to i fish them off a seperate reel clamped to the outrigger, same reel for the teasers when tuna trolling, they go out and stay there.then use a double snap swivel swivel with a rubber band as the release set out the distance then wrap the line with the rubber band, insert the rubber band in one of the clips then clip to outrover line then it just slides down till it reaches the rover{just like a diving planer }these will spread the line a good distance off the side of the boat depending how far out you put them. works great except when theres alot of boat trafic other people dont see them to goodand will run right accross the things
i also have smaller ones that go right on the main line called yellow birds they work pretty good to but only for glass like seas

its not hard ,theres not much resistance on them .they just kind of steer to one side. like i said i fish them off a seperate reel so all you have to do is reel it in
much eisier than trying to get a diving planer up its like trolling a little model boat around thats got the rudder turned

513,
I have never fish them, however their design allows you to troll more lines because they give you spread. What they don't give you is lift and quick recovery from a strike. The bottom line is there is no sub. to an outrigger. Rigger hits are very exciting and easy to reload. The rigger gives you the best of both, lift, spread & quick recovery. Good luck.
