I was wondering what most of you think of the old penn 710. I was thinking buying one and refinishing it. Does any one know if the spool and frame is made from Aluminum, I want to sand and polish it.

It's a great reel. I don't know what it's made of though.

All of the Penn 700 series spinning reels are the same, no matter whether they're the old green ones or the newer black. Any differences are largely cosmetic.

The reel body is made from cast aluminum. Internally, the gears are bronze and stainless steel. The spools are also aluminum---cast aluminum in the case of the green and black spools, machined aluminum for the gold ones. All spools are interchangeable.
