Take a small piece of lead and wrap it around your copper wire and you will have an "electric leader". Gives off a mili-amp of charge but when I fished it in a spread of three other rods with dead bait it got hit 3-1. Cheap way to increase the odds of the bite. God I love to catch sharks. They are truely a great game fish for us in the northeast and with in reach of almost anyone with a 20 ft plus boat with a good forcast. I have over 450 sharks swimming around with my tags in them and I get several returns every season from APEX/NMFS and it blows me away how far they swim. Even caught my own shark twice in a two week period and removed my tag and retagged him again. What a trip and what could the odds be. Alot of fun. Capt. Eric

Don't laugh, one of my crew swears that a mixture of dissimular metals, along with a zinc tab added for good measure, is the secret to our success. The only problem I've had with the rig is forgetting its on the bow and starting to run in. BING!, BANG! BOOM! goes the gelcoat. The thought is that it produces an electric charge which is picked up by sharks. I found a neat website called Allcoasts sportfishing. Under the discussion board, under the heading sharks and swordfish is a cool story of a big Mako battle in Florida. Give it a look see.
