I'm looking for a good offshore plier and was considering the manley. I know it's fairly popular and reasonably priced. I was wondering about the durability of this product. It's not stainless but it coated with something. $100 and up pliers are out of the question so please don't suggest Van Staal or Aftco. Link to Manley knife and plier combo is below.

Mako, I shouldn't say this because now they will probably break or finaly go overboard, but I have had my Manley Pliers for over 10 years now. Everyone I know needs to replace thiers every couple of years because the cutting edge gets worn out. With proper care they can last a long time. EVERY time I return to the slip part of the routine of cleaning rods, reels, boat, etc., includes spraying the pliers with WD-40 and sometimes a little 3 In 1 Oil. I also use a fine thin file to go over the cutting edge, it keeps it honed. I have the larger of the 2 plier sizes, but most people I know use the smaller one. I don't think the durability has anything to do with the size, just the care.

Good luck,

Mako211,
Like Matt I've had the large manley for about ten years now, I also have the smaller one. Just spray them down with corrosion block before you put them away anf they'll last until you drop them overboard. :)
