I have an interesting question one that can be applie all over the island.
I live in nassau county in the village of lawrence (right near far rockaway) and within my small area is a small pond which attracts many species of birds and has a lot of vegetattion and algae. I am medrately certain that there is somethin swimming in there but what I dont know is there any way to find out if there is any fish or what types there are is there any method or technique I can use in such a pond to find some fish. If so it will be a huge help because evey day looking at a nice qiet pond that has all the trappings of a prime fishing ground with zero fishing pressure makes my casting arm twitch
PS the DEC was no help!!

How about fishing it? I remember growing up in Westbury in the 1960's and my friends and I found 3 little ponds in Old Westbury. For a whole summer we were catching bass, panfish and carp until whoever owned the property decided we were not welcome. Just give it a shot. You never know.

I still fish 2 local Massapequa lakes, targeting bass with lures only, but fished these same lakes as a teenager with bait. Try garden worms, they will catch carp, bullheads, perch, all sunfish and small bass. I doubt crappie or pickeral will bite, but worms might be the closest thing to a "universal" bait on a small pond with unknown fish population.
If you put the rod down, insure its in a rod holder, I once took a swim retreiving one after I got lazy carp fishing. Good luck!
