I just want to let everyone know that I am not an expert off shore fisherman. I have been at it for a long time and make about 6 - 8 runs off a month. I catch my share of pelagics but like anyone else I can learn from others. I have spent hours and hours drifting and trolling without putting fish in the box. Other days I fill the box and we're at the barn early. My boat's best last season were a 202 s-fin Mako, 111# YFT(everyone got an Allison in 2001), 31# Dolphin and after 5 hours trolling SE of the Bacardi in August we put 22 Long fin in the box. I didn't do well with BFT and my goal this season is to change that if they show. In 99 we had a much less productive off shore season. I'll tell ya when I catch and I'll tell ya when I dont! Other things I would like to learn more about are using sattalite services and understanding them better. I obviously use them but, I'm not sure if I'm using them to there fullest extent. Are they really usefull when sharking is a question I always ask myself. And the list goes on. Hopefully a forum will answer some of my questions and I'll meet more guys to follow or lead us to a good day OFF SHORE! Capt. Mike

nor'east george,

i think an offshore forum would be a good idea, but not for any of the reasons already mentioned.

after all, as doughboy pointed out, the boating forum could adequately serve the offshore fishers.

the greatest benefit from the creation of an offshore forum would be to the future offshore fishers. when they finally start fishing offshore, it will be much easier for them to browse backwards for offshore fishing info in general. same benefit to the future newcomers to noreast online that are offshore fishers.

Hey all,

The future of offshore fishing is here, and still to come. I bet their are many young guys out here like me who would benefit greatly by an offshore forum. I know some of us young guys may seem ****y, but some of us like to learn (especially from those with experience)! And more importantly, some of stilll know what the word respect means. My father got into boating late in life, so as did I. Doing it now for five or so years, and I'm getting a little tired of bay fishing, coast guard station, and the reef! Besides, I want to be able to teach my son one day! So if a few of you guys are willing to be a father figure, I and others like me are willing to listen.

Thanks, Brian

Of all the catagories of fishing, offshore, inshore, surf and fly I've found the offshore guys the most forthcoming with info. (Except when tournament fishing). Its a big ocean and you can't cover it all and I've never had a problem calling other boats in on fish when I found them. I've had boats do the same for me on many occasions. Shareing info is a natural part of the offshore world. There are allways going to be a few tight lipped guys out there but I for one enjoy fishing more when I'm communicating with other boats in the area. I feel that an off shore forum would work very well, you can allways learn from the experiences of others.

Captain Hooked,
I use Everol 30/50($299) and TLD50LRS($429) Both reels performed well. There are factory drags in all 3 of my Everols and in 4 of my TLD50LRS. One of my buddies used his Everol 30/50 and the 6/0 on all of his BFT last week in North Carolina and really put them to the test with Giants.

Please an offshore fourum would be awesome. What would be incredible would be a dedicated offshore REPORT section. I hate weeding through all the flounder and porgy reports(no offense) to find the offshore reports.
Tight lines, Jim

Well, some say there is power in numbers, so I'm chiming in with my support for an Offshore Forum. I spent 4 long years ('97-'01) being geographically the furtherst I could be from any ocean while still in the US. Last summer was my first back on the east coast and I spent every weekend from the end of July-September offshore. In eight weeks offshore, the practical knowledge that I acquired (both through success and failures) was invaluable. I'd welcome the opportunity to share thoughts, ideas and questions with others.

The best thing I learned last season is that I don't need to be the one with the rod to have a great time-being appointed wireman for my crew is equally enjoyable.
