Why cant we start a new fourum/topic for the off shore fisherman. This would be a fresh topic and most of us could probably pick up on a few things or pass some stuff on. I spend alot of time on other sites picking up on a ton of west coast tricks. Tackle is always a big issue out west. Those guys do YFT(huge)on stand up with tricked out TLD 25'/30's and Penn 16's. This is un heard of around here. I had two of my TLD's tricked out and now I leave my 50's at home. Saved some $$$ and learned how use my reel accordingly. Now I use a mutch lighter setup on fish I once used 50's for. Any way if it was'nt for that off shore fishing forum I would still be lugging my 50's and 80's around. FOR OFF SHORE AND ONLY OFF SHORE

It is good to see a few fisherman have replied to this topic. Setting this up would need the attention of the "webmaster" and the staff at Noreast. However I would be wiiling to post on the off shore topic often. I guess the first topic should be shark fishing and BFT fishing because these fisheries are the first oppertunities we have. Hopefully we will see a BFT fishery this comming season. I have no problem sharing #'s or catch info. It has always been comforting to know when I sail beyond the 25 - 30 fathom lines there is someone sailing ahead of or in trail of me. Pairing up boats. There is an article in the Big Game Fishing Journal, Sept./Oct issue that Tred Barta wrote that covers NY/NJ BFT fishing. All may not agree with Tred but this article defenitely has some good info. Anyway lets do it!!! Capt. Mike

I just want to let everyone know that I am not an expert off shore fisherman. I have been at it for a long time and make about 6 - 8 runs off a month. I catch my share of pelagics but like anyone else I can learn from others. I have spent hours and hours drifting and trolling without putting fish in the box. Other days I fill the box and we're at the barn early. My boat's best last season were a 202 s-fin Mako, 111# YFT(everyone got an Allison in 2001), 31# Dolphin and after 5 hours trolling SE of the Bacardi in August we put 22 Long fin in the box. I didn't do well with BFT and my goal this season is to change that if they show. In 99 we had a much less productive off shore season. I'll tell ya when I catch and I'll tell ya when I dont! Other things I would like to learn more about are using sattalite services and understanding them better. I obviously use them but, I'm not sure if I'm using them to there fullest extent. Are they really usefull when sharking is a question I always ask myself. And the list goes on. Hopefully a forum will answer some of my questions and I'll meet more guys to follow or lead us to a good day OFF SHORE! Capt. Mike

Captain Hooked,
I use Everol 30/50($299) and TLD50LRS($429) Both reels performed well. There are factory drags in all 3 of my Everols and in 4 of my TLD50LRS. One of my buddies used his Everol 30/50 and the 6/0 on all of his BFT last week in North Carolina and really put them to the test with Giants.
