Can't believe this boat that Greg Norman (famous golfer for all you non-hackers) built. That's looks like a 36' Sportfisher on the back! It was pictured in the NY Post on Thursday, 1-23-03. Start drooling fellas.

sorry bud just doing a test

HeHeHe. I thought the pic caption would be readable It is 228 feet long, has 6 other boats/watercraft on it besides the Sportfisher, movie theater, gym, swimming pool, and a tackle room with 200 rods and reels. Holds enough gas to cruise from North Pole to South Pole w/o refilling. I gotta hang out with this guy.

nice personal cruise ship

LkyLindy- that would be a nice dream, but even if i was given the ship for free,
i doubt i could afford to staff and maintain that beast on a yearly basis.

as a expedition style mothership fishing boat,
I DO NOT LIKE IT !

there are some very serious issues that i would have with this boat if i had it built for the purpose of traveling the world and fishing.

my main problem is the 42 foot sportfisherman CANNOT be launched or retrieved at sea. it must be done in port by a travel lift or crane.
WHAT IS THE POINT THEN ??

you just traveled to some exotic remote location and you cant get the sport fisherman off the back of the boat to go fishing with.
huh? who designed that ?

second, if the sportfisherman is loaded on the stern, the onboard cranes cannot unload the 30 foot seacraft.
only when the sportfisherman is off the boat, can the seacraft be launched and retrieved at sea. another brilliant design.

so now i have this 70 million dollar yacht that i cant launch my boats from, and there are no provisions on the main boat itself to be able to fish from either.

best i can do at sea is unload the 22 foot dive tender or one of the flats boats, or maybe try some big game fishing off the back of a jetski.

to me, for $70 million, i would have hoped to see a more well thought out design as it relates to fishing.
or maybe for greg norman the fishing part isnt as important as the media makes it seem. ?

Meg, I was kind of wondering how they'd get that '42 off the deck in any kind of seas. I figured if I couldn't see a 30 foot boat on the stern there must be a crane I couldn't see either. Just in case they ran into a school of tuna, I think I would have to install a Scoponich on the stern swim platform between the staircases. With 200 rods on board he must have something to muscle a fish on board, I can't see backing that boat down for a fighting fish.

Mega, JPD,
I think you have it wrong. The two cranes, one in each stern quarter, are to be used to lift the boat out of the cradle and intot the water. Don't think they need to be in port everytime they want that launched. Those cranes look hefty enough to lift that baby. But I do agree with you , it doesn't make sense to have that boat onboard in the cradle and be limited as to when you can use it.
When I have a boat that size, and I'm in that situation, I'll give you a call and we can figure it out.

"I think you have it wrong. "

from their website :

A 12.8 meter / 42 foot Sportfisherman, launched from the main deck by double slings when the yacht is in port.

after i had read that several days ago i made a few phone calls to some associates with knowledge of this project.

the confirmed the fact the sportfisherman can only be offloaded in port.
they also mentioned the fact about the 30' seacraft not being able to be moved while the sportfisherman is on back.

capt. tom give me a call BEFORE you build it, this way i can save you a few million in repair work to correct the mistakes. ;) with $70 million to work with i am sure we can get it right the first time.

JPD- here is a better picture of the cranes. if you look at the picture above you will see them also. they fold down when not in use.
