Recently I read a debate between where the North Shore Fluke and South Shore Fluke arrive from? One person said the North Shore fluke are primarily from the Georges Bank Area and the South Shore fluke come from the canyons???? Or do they come from the same area????Does anyone know for sure????

It's all about water temps. Our fluke, blues, and many of our inshore species are like the birds; they travel South for the winter. Here on Long Island, due south brings them to the continental shelf. With this in mind, a migration NorthEast to George's Banks doesn't make any sense. If you talk to anyone up North in the MA or NH area, they'll tell you that they don't have a fishery for fluke even in the middle of summer. Also, did you ever feel how cold the bodies of the cod feel from George's Banks? Do you really think that summer flounder can tolerate that kind of brutal cold water even in the middle of the summer??
