Okay this is a very late report, but i got these pictures today from my august trip to Kill Devil Hills North Carolina. I figured it gove everyone something to read. Me and my dad went out for a full day trip on the Miss Hatteras, and i brought along all my butterfly jigs. I was using a Trinidad 16 filled with 80lb braid and 15 feet of 100lb flourocarbon. My first jig was a 270g in green. I started working it the way they tell you to on the shimano website and the captain came around and told me to try really harder jerks. I did and i hooked up to a 40lb amberjack. I did not like how light the trevala was, as for the jigs i had a good pick all day on vermillion snappers, sea bass, and smaller amberjacks. Then i had a hook up that i managed to pry off the bottom but as i got it near the surface it ran under the boat and cut me off. I threw on a pink jig, and for the rest of the day i had a fish on every time i got to the bottom. I even had an amberjack hit on the way down. I had a blast

First AJ
Second AJ hit on the way down

I am impressed with AJ size caught in NC.
I talked with a Capt in NC and he told me he had a 140 lbs AJ.

AJ respond to jigs very well and they are powerful fighters.
Here are pictures of recent AJ jigging trip to NC by Randy(Anglers Proshop) and John.

Wow that puts mine to shame when was this trip im going down in april and we have a few trips planned but i wanna replace my trevala with something different
The picture shows the right action of the rod ( I believe the rod is Hot's Wei). John really relaxed to fight the fish. It shows his experience.

AJs are so strong with their first run, much more so than tuna of the same size. a couple weekends ago, i caught many little amberjack, none over 15lbs.....they still pulled a bit of line off the reel at 20lbs of drag. pretty impressive.

Kil you are right that is the Wei World 48XXH, I have the same rod. Hopefully I am going down soon. The rod is the lightest rod I have ever felt, maybe 8-9 ounces. Its like jigging with no rod just a reel

Yes, it was so light that you don't feel any rod weight at all. :)
My friend from Korea who fished on the Carribean Sea trip last June bought the rod after he saw Sami fished with the rod. He loves the rod. I asked Rodwinder to build a rod with OTI's front part(5') of 80 lbs popping blank. I plan to test the acid wrapped rod for upcoming NC trip.

NC trip is a good opportunity to test my new Shimano Saragosa 18000F to the limit as big AJ and big grouper are very powerful.
