That is right. If you go charter\headboat and are fishing without a charter you can fish commercially. The only thing is that in order to sell the fish you still need to have a food-fish license. If you dont have one you can't sell the fish legally no matter which permit you get.

A LITTLE MIS-UNDERSTANDING

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO HOLD A FIN FISH PERMIT TO SELL TUNA, YOU MUST HOWEVER HOLD A LANDING PERMIT, FOOD FISH PERMITS ARE FOR STATE REGULATED SELLABLE SPECIES,NOT FEDERAL.THE FOOD FISH LANDING PERMIT IS 500.00 /YR WITH A GENERAL PERMIT/OR PARTY CHARTER, YOU MUST HAVE BOTH. JUST TO COVER YOURSELF GIVE THE DEC A CALL AT 631-444-0455.FOOD FISH PERMITS ARE FOR THINGS LIKE LING,BLUES,BERGALS WITCH ARE BASICALLY COVERED IN A GENERAL PERMIT ANY WAY.
