I am planning to fish for schoolies at Sunken Meadow State Park/Nissequogue River. I have heard, amd I would guess that the best fishinig there would be the mouth of the river on a dropping tide. Is this true? And is parking at Sunken Meadow and walking east to the rivermouth the best bet? I have never fished there, and I am wondering what is the best approach, where should I fish, and where is the best place to park. Any and all info is greatly appreciated. THEO

Thanks Capt! Looks like the end of this weeks tides should be just right for there. I have most of the lures you mentioned. However, as far as set-ups, most of my surf-casting is done on the southshore and I am not sure if the rods in my quiver are suitable. Which of my rods would be most favorable for fishing Sunken Meadow? I have a 7 foot Med light spinnig rod with a reel that I can rig with either 12 or 15 lb-test, I could probably push it and go 17 also. I also have a 9ft Med-Hev. Spooled with 20lb, and an 11ft Med-Hev spooled with 20lb-test as well. My guess is that I can leave the 11 at home, and try either the 7 or 9. Which do you think is best of what I have? Should I go 12 or 15 on the 7 footer? Is the 9 footer too much? what is the absolute best set up an angler can have when fishing Sunken Meadow? Best of luck! Thank you for all the Info, and thanks in advance for any answers you can give me to these questions. THEO

Hey Capt. Marc, thank you so much for all the info. I plan to put 15 on the 7 footer because it needs to be spooled anyway. I am plannig to put on the mono leader as well. Bringing along the 9ft is also a great call i need to spool that reel also, so I will go 20 on that. Looks like my schedule will allow me to fish there sometime in the very near future. I guess I will walk west to about 1/4 mile west of the jetty, and take it from there, sounds like it is best to work my way west. Looks like I will fish plugs with the 7 footer first and toss out a sandworm on the 9. If I feel like I am not getting the desired distance, I'll switch it up. Thank you so much for all the info, you saved me alot of "figuring out" and possibly a "learning expiernce". It is always so much better when you know alittle about a place, from someone who has fished it, before you go. I am looking foward to fishing there and I will be sure to let you know how it goes via the forum or posted reports. Thanks again.
