Joey,

I was coming back in Sunday night around 7:30 pm into Oyster Bay/Colds Spring Harbor. A little north of the Sewanaka Yacht club on the west side of Oyster Bay was a dark green kayak going east with no lights. I missed him by only 50 ft. I believe the law states that a small craft under 16 ft should have a handheld light when out at night. Maybe this guy looks at this forum. Please point out to the subscribers of this forum and the one you started on the other guys site that a kayak at night should have a light. This miss was a little too close for comfort.

PS: How come you never post any fishing reports anymore?

X-treme kayaking! I really don't want to kill anybody. 3500lb of boat against a plastic kayak, the kayak is history and I would barely feel it plus I think they are breaking the law. WHat happenes to me if I do hit one, Lawsuits or jail , or both.

Hey Bill

You know its beyond me why someone would take a chance out there with no lights. I have a simple but effective setup for my kayak-If I am really going to be in some heavy traffic areas I have a running light that is battery powered but most of the time I use my headlamp and I have a light that clips on the back of my headlamp strap for anybody coming from my rear. Like I said if I was going to be in a high traffic areas I would have both of these on. Most of the time I am fishing at night where no other boat would venture so I can go with just the headlamp.

Hey the bouys over there

Night time with out lights is not the only time you are putting your lives in jeopary. As a power boater I have seen on many occasions kayaks putting themselves in danger during the daylight hours. Kayaks are to small to be seen when the seas are even at 2'. You guys should put some sort of flag like you see on bicyles on your boats. I am sure it won't be long till some one is run over and killed. I can say that when a captain says he just didn't see him after an accident, I will understand. I have also seen what I thought was a nav aid in the distance and headed for it only to see that it is a kayaker wearing a green life vest once close enough. I know you guys have a right to be out there and enjoy yourselves....just think about your vessels visibilty to other craft enjoying themselves. No one wants to live with the fact that they ground someone up. I'm not crapping on you guys but trying to help you make your sport a little safer.
