Hey everyone!
Not new to kayaking(sea yak,WW,surf and instruct) but am new to fishing out of one and have set up a rec yak for fishing.
My work takes me to all areas of LI( I live on the South Shore) so I've been in Oyster Bay and Great South Bay these last few weeks.
Not looking for any detailed areas but am seeking a few good places to wet a line...............little to no boat traffic or places I can at least have a chance at catching a few finny ones.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A lifetime could not explore the opportunities in Great South Bay. I firmly believe the best fishing is that which is closest to home. But Little Neck Bay and Manhasset Bay are very quiet protected waters with easy access, Glenn Island is superb, Hempstead Harbor is awesome at times, Huntington Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor are all easy access. I have been to the last 4 places mentioned exactly once each. Go back and read the second sentence.

Lately, Cold Spring Harbor has been alive with 3-6 lb bluefish. The ramp just north of the Fish Hatchery on RT 25A is quite accessable and not crowded at all.
With a dropping tide, it usually gets hectic with fish between 4pm and dusk. I have limited out on my Yak there in the past few days in just over an hour. Lots of fun and no crowds. Check both sides of the ramp on the water. The back area near the Hatchery is where most of the action takes place, just look for the ever present birds diving.
Sometimes, the action is right at the red/green marker bouys, just 1000 feet north of the ramp and into the Harbor.

Thanks

Floated the yak in Cold Spring Harbor late Thursday afternoon.10-10-02
Met a guy at the ramp who gave some good advice and that's where I paddled to.
The action was fast and furious and I had the Dagger being towed around as I fought some nice size Blues and one Striper (.......nice size for me at least!).
All catch and release...........lost count on how many I met.Got back to the take out well after dark in a slight drizzle but an absolutely beautiful night.
Thanks for the heads up Lucky!
Been meaning to fish up there for a long time and I'll be back soon.
