Thanks to everyone for the nice words.
We carry the largest selection of Seeker offshore rods on the East Coast. We have the East Coast American Series, Black Steel and Super Seeker. All of these rods come in many variations with line class ratings and guide style. We have a large selection of Seeker rods with and with out Aftco UniButts as well.
Calstar rods are awesome value for the money. We have them from the Boomer Jr. to the popular 6455XXH. They do not have unibutts but foam grips keeping the cost and weight down. World class rods and you would not be disappointed.
If you are private boat fishing with inboards go with a 5 1/2 foot rod. Dont give away any leverage and you can apply max pressure on the fish. If you will be fishing on a boat with outboards or a party boat go with a 6' rod.
As far as reels go I make no secret that for the money Avet provides the most bang for your buck. If spectra is something you would like to fish with, an Avet 30EXW/2 with 400yds of JBH130 and a 100' topshot would be ideal. The reel has the drag of a 50 class reel and with the spectra there is no issue as to line capacity. The reels are tough as iron. This past month has seen AVET 30EXW/2 catch a 480 Thresher, 148 bigeye and a 193 mako and a blsitering run of a 250lb class blue marlin. All of these reels were either rigged by us or we supplied the Jerry Brown Hollow and BHP topshots.
If mono is your preference than a 50W would be my choice again AVET first with the Shimano LRS second.
You need to first determine your budget. Then how are you going to fish the equipment. Private boat, head boat inboards, outboards and then you can narrow your choices. Then you need to put a bend in the rod to see if you prefer a faster taper or slower more parabolic action. I prefer Seeker rods because the power comes on very fast and the rod shuts down quickly providing great recoil in the blank. When coupled with a Braid style bucket harness you can bring max pressure on the fish with minimal input on your upper body. Calstar blanks also have a fast taper but not as quick as my preference dictates. John and Diane (D&J fish) prefer the Calstars as does Mike (Bluefish 9). Sam and Mike (Clementine and Bobrusky)are all over the Seeker East Coast rods. Thats the great thing about having large inventories of rods you can bend away till you decide where you want to be. Ultimately it is your choice to make. And you have to be happy with your choice.
This was long and I hope it helps.
Thanks everyone!
