Just moved to New Rochelle from Boston, and I am looking into shore/surf fishing in that area. I have enough equipment where I can target almost any species from there, but I don't know which ones or where exactly to look in the New Rochelle, City Island, Eastchester, Mamaroneck area. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi:

As far as I am concerned there aren't that many shorebound places to fish from in the western Sound on the westchester side...there are a few...Glen Island (you need a park permit), Orchard Beach area, 5 Island Park, Hudson Park.

Best bet is to call up or go to Al's Bait and Tackle in Pelham; Jack's B&T in City Island and Hudson B&T.

good luck

In New Rochelle, you're in the middle of the finest Bluefishing I know of. The Western Sound produces choppers up to 21# most summers. Orchard Beach, Field 1, Turtle Cove (under Throggs Neck Bridge), Glenn Island...you have plenty to get you started. See Vinny at Jacks B&T on City Island for more details.
