Just purchased a brand new Mercury 2008 Optimax 175 with all the bells and whistles available for my 20 ft center console boat that weighs about 2300 pounds without fuel.

In your opinion did i make a wise purchase as far as horsepower and engine type for my boat?

My boat is 3 years old and had a Mercury 115hp motor from the dealer.

I just want to know since i have not been doing this for that long, how much of a difference this motor should make.

Thanks for all your imput and tight lines.

Figured anything is better then my 115hp and it was a deal i couldn't refuse. I'm actually looking for other owners of this engine to chime in and let me know how they like this engine on there boats.

Thanks for the reply.

Usually dealers match the right engine on boats they sell.... what was wrong with your 3 year old merc? You ask "how much of a difference"? With respect to what? Top speed? Efficiency?

Theres nothing wrong with the 115hp (trading it in) just that we usually fish with 2 or 3 guys and we're all over 200 pounds +70 gallons of gas, makes for a slow ride.

The hull is rated for up to a 200hp and 4000 pounds

The boat is 20ft but has a 9 foot beam. (Prosport)

Thanks for all your info!
