Are you looking literally for sticks or sticks w/ reels?.. I'm about where you are at w/ shark equipment, just starting.. struck out last year, they are in for a surpise this season though ;)..

A good bet for quality & economy big game gear are Penn Senators.. A new 9/0 rod & reel combo, purchased at a decent price, will run you just around $200. About $130 for the reel and $70 for the rod.. sometimes even cheaper. The word on the street is you can get about any shark in on those w/ 80 lb mono & that the drags will need replacement every now and then, but the reels last forever.

For smaller trolling gear - same deal, high speed senators - 113H's are in the $80 range & will hold up.. Super level wind GTI's are up to the task too, but I've had some trouble with them. There are pleanty of good rods out there to match for $70 and even much less..

For boat spinning tackle - I now fish with better, but own a couple penn power graph reels on a slammer & another misc. rod.. They will loosen up after lots of fish & require a bushing or other cheap parts, but last and are about $70 a piece.. Slammer rods are in the $50 and under range (check walMart).. Hows all that sound?
